Common Hydroponic Problems and Fixes

Home / Common Hydroponic Problems and Fixes

Yellowing leaves

Often a nutrient or pH problem. Test the pH first, then check that the solution has the right nutrients for the plant.

Wilting

Can mean the roots are short of oxygen or the solution is too warm. Check the water temperature and aeration, and look at the roots.

Brown, slimy roots

Usually root rot, caused by warm, low-oxygen water. Improve aeration, cool the solution and remove any dead roots.

Algae

Light reaching the nutrient solution feeds algae. Use opaque containers and cover any exposed water.

Slow growth

Check the light level, the pH and whether the nutrient solution has been replaced recently.
